Master Program
Starting from the 2007 academic year, prospective candidates who have successfully passed the preliminary examination by the Japanese Embassy/Consulate are required to obtain a letter of acceptance from their potential supervisors (please see more details here)
The Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University, offers a 2-year master program, leading to the degree MA in Economics. Teaching and supervision are conducted in Japanese. Only a limited number of courses are taught in English.
Within the master program, there are two subprograms as follows:
(1) Economics subprogram (in Japanese, “Hakase course”)
(2) Business/ Management subprogram (in Japanese, “Business Kagaku course”)
The main difference between these subprograms is that students who have successfully completed the Economics subprogram receive an automatic admission to the PhD program. Students who have successfully completed the Business subprogram and wish to be admitted to the PhD program must pass the entrance exams. Please note also that students who have successfully completed the Business subprogram receive the degree MA in Economics, not MBA.

Admission Requirements Master of Public Administration (MPA)
In order to apply for admission to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program, applicants must forward the following materials to the Dean, Graduate School and Research:
Transcripts of all undergraduate work;
Two letters of recommendation; and
Official Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) OR Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.
A prospective candidate for the MPA program may hold a bachelor's degree in any field. It is not necessary that the bachelor's degree be in public ../administration. To be admitted to the MPA program, a candidate must meet the following requirements:

Admission Requirements:
CELP Course on English: It is mandatory for all students of undergraduate programs of Southeast University .
For MBA (Regular) Program: At least a Bachelor's degree having no 3rd Division in any public examination.
For MBA (Executive) program: At least a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years' working experience at the executive level. Years of schooling and experience will carry weight.

2. Two recommendation letters (one of the recommenders should be the Chief Executive of your organization, and the other should have senior academic or professional title);

Graduate Admission Entrance Examination
PhD Program
A PhD program is available for those students intending to become researchers after completing the Master's program. There is no special entrance examination for foreign students for the PhD program. All applicants are required to take the general examination.
Applications for the entrance examination for the PhD program should be completed by the beginning of January. The examination will be conducted towards the beginning of February.

4218: Environmental Economics

In this lecture, we describe various environmental problems that we face in the contemporary society, provide economic analyses toward social issues associated with these problems, look into the decision making process in the national and local governments in Japan, and explain policies to encounter them.
First we describe environmental problems in general and that of pollution, waste disposals and global warming. In particular, we deal with the Kyoto Protocol whose commitment period of reducing greenhouse gases has begun this year from the political and administrative perspective.
We then
