Learning Outcomes : At the end this course, students should be able to:
1. Identify the discipline of microeconomics, use an approach combining
theory, graphs and practical applications in analyzing business related
issues.
2. Explain how economic units (such as consumers and producers) make
decisions and interact in the market and the current microeconomic
conditions in Malaysia.
3. Compare and contrast the different types of market structures and
economic systems.
4. Apply price theory based on demand and supply models, elasticity,
consumer behavior and the demand curve, firm behavior and the
supply curve to the real world situation.
5. Determine the factors that affect the allocation and distribution of
scarce resources and the market equilibrium price.
6. Analyze the production and pricing decisions of business firms, and
consumption decision of households, hiring and investment decisions
of the firms, income distribution and poverty.
Synopsis of Course Contents : This course will expose students to basic principles of economics such
as limited resources and choice and how price theory, production theory
and distribution theory was developed based on these basic principles.
Discussion on price theory covers demand and supply models, elasticity,
consumer behavior and the demand curve, firm behavior and the supply
curve. Production theory will cover theory of the firm within various market
structures, while distribution theory will discuss factors of price
determination such as labour and capital.

Final Examination : 50%

This half course focuses on the problem of business decisions through the extensive use of cases. You look at basic supply-demand theory and marginal analysis, the structure of decision problems, the impact of the market setting (i.e. competitive, oligopolistic or monopolistic structures) and strategic interactions among firms using game theory.

Microeconomics and macroeconomics as foundations for business decision making: The market force of demand and supply; elasticity; resource allocation; diminishing return; economies of scale; pricing; cost structure for individual goods and services; fiscal policy; monetary policy; exchange rate policy; changing environment factors including politic, social and demography, technology and physical environment.
Managerial Accounting
An introduction to the theories and policies of managerial accounting, through examination of the role of performance evaluation in corporate decision-making, cost management, and profit management. Students will be introduced to accounting for corporate planning and coordination, through issues such as budgeting. This course will assume knowledge of basic accounting practices.
Managerial Statistics
Introducing basic concepts in probability and statistics relevant to managerial decision making, this course covers topics including data analysis, random variables and probability distributions, sampling distributions, interval estimation, hypothesis testing and regression. You look at examples from quality-control applications, finance, marketing and management.
