Admissions Criteria
The Graduate School of International Management of IUJ is dedicated to developing tomorrow’s leaders.
Applicants will be reviewed on the basis of the following criteria in accordance with the mission above.
1. Clearness of career goals, significance and positioning of proposed study in the IUJ MBA/E-business Management program toward those goals.
2. Aptitude and potential to become a business leader who can manage increasingly globalizing organizations.
3. Maturity and fair sense of values as a member of the multinational and multicultural IUJ community and interest in understanding different cultures, actively communicating with others, and creating a world-wide human network
Number Of Students
A combined maximum of seventy-five (75) students for MBA and E-Business Management programs are admitted per year.
Time Of Enrollment
Enrollment in the IUJ MBA program or the IUJ E-Business Management program is possible only in September, at the start of the fall term.
Special Doctoral Program for Graduates of Partner Universities:
The Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University, offers a 3-year special doctoral program, leading to the degree PhD in Economics. Teaching and supervision are conducted in English.
Important note for potential candidates: your home institution must be a Kyoto University’s Graduate School of Economics partner under our cooperation and exchange agreement. In other words, we only accept applications from universities currently in cooperation with the Graduate School of Economics within the student exchange programs.
Application Requirements for Admission to the INTERNATIONAL DOCTORAL PROGRAM IN ECONOMICS (October 2005 - September 2008) †
1. INTRODUCTION †
The Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University, offers a doctoral program (hereafter referred to as “the Program”) in Economics for foreign students. Teaching and supervision are conducted in English, but students are strongly encouraged to study Japanese for practical purposes.
1.1 Scholarship †
Students admitted to the Program receive the Japanese Government (Ministry of Education and Science) scholarship.
1.2 Number of applicants to be admitted †
Two students are admitted every year.
2. ELIGIBILITY †
2.1 University education †
Applicants must be graduates of universities that have international academic exchange agreements with Kyoto University.
2.2 Nationality †
Applicants must be citizens of countries that have official diplomatic relations with Japan. If an applicant has previously studied at a Japanese university as a recipient of the Japanese Government Scholarship (or under any other status), three years (respectively, one year) must have passed since he/she left Japan. Students who are currently studying in Japan are not eligible to apply.
2.3 Age †
Applicants must be under thirty-five years old as of October 1, 2005.
2.4 Academic qualifications †
Applicants must satisfy one of the following conditions at the end of September, 2005.
They hold a Master’s degree.
They have been engaged in research for at least two years at a university or a research institute after university graduation or after the completion of 16-year education.
They are over twenty-four years old and demonstrate the equivalent or higher level of scholastic aptitude as that of a Master’s degree holder as evaluated by the Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University.
2.5 Health †
Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy.
2.6 Language ability †
Applicants must have TOEFL score higher than 550 (for the paper-based test) or 213 (for the computer-based test).
2.7 Other conditions †
Applicants who are doing their military service at the time the Program begins are not eligible to apply.
Applicants whose spouses receive the Japanese Government Scholarship are not eligible to apply.
Applicants who are receiving a scholarship from any other source are not eligible to apply.
3. FINANCIAL SUPPORT †
The following financial support will be offered to the students admitted to the Program:
The Japanese Government Scholarship of 175,000 yen per month (the amount may be subject to revision) for at most thirty-six months.
Economy class, return ticket from the international airport closest to the student’s home address to Kansai International Airport. The ticket will not be offered unless he/she leaves Japan immediately after the scholarship expires.
Waiver of the application, matriculation, and tuition fees.
Reimbursement of 80% of all medical expenses by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
4. SELECTION AND ADMISSION †
4.1 Selection process at Kyoto University †
The Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University, examines the documents submitted by the applicants. Those selected are recommended to the Japanese Government as candidates for the Scholarship. The applicants will be informed of the selection process results by the end of May 2005.
4.2 Selection process by the Japanese Government †
The Japanese Government examines the documents of the applicants recommended by Kyoto University and selects the recipients of the Japanese Government Scholarship. Those selected will be informed of this decision by the end of August 2005. The Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University, will send the selected candidates a certificate of admission to the International Doctoral Program in Economics. Students admitted to the Program must arrive in Kyoto between October 1 and October 31, 2005.
5. ACADEMIC Advisers †

Prior Educational Background
Applicants for admission to PhD programs must possess a good first degree from a recognized university or an approved institution. An applicant’s undergraduate background is not a precondition for admission. We encourage students outside business majors, such as science, engineering, arts and other areas to apply.
The Application Date
Admission to PhD programs is for the beginning of the fall semester. The Admissions Committee begins review applications from January. Applicants are urged to submit all application materials (including copies of GMAT and TOEFL scores) by early February. Applications submitted after this date will be considered only if spaces are available. As not every department will consider admission to the PhD programs for each year, applicants should check with individual departments before they apply. Applicants will be notified of the decisions no later than May.
The GMAT or the GRE
An applicant must demonstrate his/her capability for graduate studies by obtaining a satisfactory score in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), or other equivalent means. The test score is not the primary deciding factor for admission to doctoral studies. However, applicants with a GMAT score below 600 must have a strong academic record and/or extensive experience in their chosen field to demonstrate their potential. TOEFL
For applicants who attended educational institutions where the language of instruction was not English and whose first language is not English, a satisfactory score in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required.

Admission Requirement
The HKUST MBA seeks to bring together a diverse group of participants with a variety of abilities, experiences and academic backgrounds. Applicants are expected to meet the following requirements: Strong bachelor degree:
Applicants for admission to the MBA program must possess a good bachelor’s degree (normally with Honors not lower than Second Class Lower Division or with an average grade of not lower than ‘B’) from a recognized university or approved institution
Minimum 3 year’s full-time work experience after the first degree:
Applicants’ previous work experience will play an important role in the overall assessment of their applications. Applicants are required to have at least 3 years of full-time work experience after obtaining their bachelor’s degree.
Satisfactory GMAT score or HKUST Aptitude Test:
In addition to possessing good scholastic records, all MBA program applicants are required to take the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT http://www.gmac.com).
Information about taking GMAT in China can be obtained from web site www.neea.edu.cn. Applicants are strongly advised to schedule the test well in advance of the test taking date (e.g. 3 months) to secure a booking.
Alternatively applicants may choose to sit for the HKUST aptitude test for the Shenzhen MBA program. The aptitude test will be in form of a GMAT diagnostic test, and applicants will be tested on their quantitative and verbal skill.
Take intake2008 for example, 4 training workshops were arranged on Sundays in May, 2008 and the test was scheduled on May 31, 2008 . The total fees for the 4 workshops, study material and the test was HKD 3,000.
A good TOEFL/IELTS result:
Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English. Those with the following conditions could be exempted from TOEFL/IELTS test: - Whose first language is English; or
- Who attended undergraduate study with English as the language of instruction; or
- Alternatively, candidates can take HKUST English Test held in Shenzhen. The test includes 3 parts- Cloze Passage, Comprehension & Essay, similar with TOEFL; For intake 2008, the English test was in the afternoon of May31, 2008; The fee for English test was HKD500. )
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
Application Requirements
Applicants for admission to the Executive MBA program must:a. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or an approved institution, or possess recognized professional qualifications equivalent to a degree;
b. Have at least 10 years of significant full-time work experience after obtaining their bachelor’s degree or professional qualifications; and
c. Have company sponsorship and support.
For applicants who were educated at institutions where the primary language of instruction was not English and whose native language is not English, a satisfactory score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is required.
In addition to an academic background, the candidates should be able to demonstrate that:a. Their organization sponsor considers they are outstanding and have potential within the organization;
b. They are holding, or will soon hold, positions of executive responsibility that make the program of value in furthering their career; and
c. They have both the time and the motivation to make the commitment to attend classes and prepare assignments.
Each Executive MBA participant is required to have his or her own portable personal computer. Participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with word processing, email and spreadsheet analysis on PCs prior to the beginning of coursework. They must also maintain personal email accounts to facilitate communication with the Executive MBA program office, the faculty and other Executive MBA participants.
The target size for each Executive MBA class is 50-60 students.
Postgraduate Programs
SOB trains full-time postgraduates under the master degree program in business management and accounting. The programs offer seven concentrations—international business management, international marketing, foreign trade quantitative analysis, manufacturing and service system management, international accounting, cost and management accounting, and financial management.
Applicants for the master’s program must have a bachelor’s degree. There is no requirement for their undergraduate major. Given the international orientation of SOB’s graduates, students are highly recommended to have a good mastery of English and quantitative analysis skills. SOB will provide students with a solid theoretical foundation, advanced techniques and analytical capabilities by means of flexible and diversified training. SOB will also improve their communicating skills and leadership quality, in order to make them professionally competent.
