Learning Outcomes : At the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Explain the role of management accountants in providing relevant
information for management use in planning, control and decision
making.
2. Distinguish the elements of cost and appropriate accounting treatments
of the three basic elements of cost; namely material, labour and
overheads.
3. Apply the various costing methods, including variable costing and
absorption costing, in product and service costing and utilise
appropriate computer software to assist decision-making.
4. Apply the concept of activity-based costing in product and service
costing.
5. Evaluate motivational, behavioural and ethical issues in decision
making at operational level.
Synopsis of Course Contents : This course introduces the basic concepts, terminologies, principles and
methods of cost accounting at operational level. This includes introduction
of cost elements, basic cost accumulation techniques and various costing
methods, including contemporary approaches in arriving at the cost of
products produced or services rendered.

Final Examination : 60%

Library

University of Tsukuba has a Central Library and three other libraries in Tsukuba, as well as Otsuka Library in Tokyo. Otsuka Library houses approximately 32,000 technical books and 500 academic journals and is equipped with an online search system. It also provides a request service to obtain documents from libraries in Tsukuba and other universities. For the convenience of students of the evening graduate school, the library counter is open during evening hours as shown below, and the reading room is available daily until 23:00.

Graduate Laboratory

There are three fingerprint-protected graduate laboratories which can be used as a shared carrel or group discussion space. The graduate laboratories are staffed with graduate school personnel (associate researchers) who provide students with study consultation.
Computer Room

There are three computer rooms co-managed by the Master’s Program in Systems Management and the Doctoral Program in Systems Management. These rooms contain approximately 80 AT-compatible machines running Unix on several server machines. The OS can be switched to Windows XP. The computer rooms are available 24 hours a day, and can be used for computer exercises as well as student study sessions and self-learning.
Interuniversity Satellite Communication Network

The interuniversity satellite communication network, of which the University of Tsukuba is a participant, enables attendance at exchange classes among 116 participating institutions throughout Japan, primarily national universities, and allows for joint seminars with the Tsukuba campus.

This course is about how to formulate business problems involving numbers and how to solve them using the latest computer tools. Applicants for admission to the Executive MBA program must:a. Possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or an approved institution, or possess recognized professional qualifications equivalent to a degree;
b. Have at least 10 years of significant full-time work experience after obtaining their bachelor’s degree or professional qualifications; and
c. Have company sponsorship and support.

For applicants who were educated at institutions where the primary language of instruction was not English and whose native language is not English, a satisfactory score on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is required.

In addition to an academic background, the candidates should be able to demonstrate that:a. Their organization sponsor considers they are outstanding and have potential within the organization;

Each Executive MBA participant is required to have his or her own portable personal computer. Participants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with word processing, email and spreadsheet analysis on PCs prior to the beginning of coursework. They must also maintain personal email accounts to facilitate communication with the Executive MBA program office, the faculty and other Executive MBA participants.
The target size for each Executive MBA class is 50-60 students.

The Criminal Justice Program is designed as an interdisciplinary study drawing from legal studies, mathematics, psychology, business and public ../administration. Graduates qualify to hold management and ../administrative positions within the criminal justice system, i.e., corrections, customs, judiciary, policy, etc. The program requires sixteen (16) courses with each course completed in the sequence specified by advisors. In order to meet individual needs and interests, students may draw from several courses to complete their required electives. Students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all major coursework.

For Business Administration majors, upper division Legal Studies (LW) and Public Administration (PA) courses may be used to fulfill upper division elective requirements outside SBPA.

Students are required to complete fifty-five (55) semester credit hours selected from the University’s General Education Requirements, as found in the Undergraduate Catalog.

The General Education philosophy states, “While courses in one’s major field prepare a student for success in a chosen profession, the General Education program helps prepare one for success in life.” These courses are important to the BBA degree program, particularly in the areas of essential skills, global and regional studies, modern language and the diversity of society.
