Admissions Criteria
The Graduate School of International Management of IUJ is dedicated to developing tomorrow’s leaders.

Applicants will be reviewed on the basis of the following criteria in accordance with the mission above.
1. Clearness of career goals, significance and positioning of proposed study in the IUJ MBA/E-business Management program toward those goals.
2. Aptitude and potential to become a business leader who can manage increasingly globalizing organizations.
3. Maturity and fair sense of values as a member of the multinational and multicultural IUJ community and interest in understanding different cultures, actively communicating with others, and creating a world-wide human network

Number Of Students
A combined maximum of seventy-five (75) students for MBA and E-Business Management programs are admitted per year.

Time Of Enrollment
Enrollment in the IUJ MBA program or the IUJ E-Business Management program is possible only in September, at the start of the fall term.

Economics

The Department of Economics emphasizes both teaching and research, and sees them as mutually reinforcing. Faculty members are encouraged to engage in important research that leads to publication in leading international journals. Faculty members are also encouraged to apply rigorous methodologies to local economic issues that are of high academic value.

The Department’s research effort is focused on four specific areas in addition to the common core of microeconomics and macroeconomics. They are (1) econometrics; (2) economic growth and development; (3) industrial organization and theory of the firm; (4) international economics; and (5) China’s Economy.

Faculty members in the Department are highly regarded and their accomplishments are formally recognized in several studies of productivity in economics research. In a study of East Asian universities published in Economic Inquiry (October 1999), HKUST was ranked number one in East Asia. In a study commissioned by the European Economic Association (2001), HKUST was ranked first in Asia and 37th in the world. In a study of publications in econometrics published in Econometric Theory (2003), HKUST was ranked 17th in the world for its publications in three core econometrics journals and 26th in all theoretical econometrics publications.

The Center for Economic Development was established in 1995 with support from the Department. Its goals are to support research on the process of economic development, with emphasis on economic development in Greater China and the Asia-Pacific region. Some of the department’s members are active in the School’s multidisciplinary Center for Experimental Business Research.

Admission Detail Part Time MBA at School of Business and Management (HKUST)

We invite applications from October onwards for our annual intake which starts in the following August. The capacity for a typical Shenzhen part-time MBA intake is 60.

Application Fee

3. Bank draft made payable to “The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology”

Interview
We conduct personal interviews with short-listed applicants. Motivation, interpersonal and communication skills, career plans and maturity will be assessed during the interview.

Admissions Decision
Evaluation is based on the information provided in the application and interview performance. Admission decisions are not formula-driven but depend on an applicant’s overall profile. Successful applicants will receive an admissions offer within one month of the interview.

Accepting an Offer
Successful candidates are required to return a signed acceptance together with a non-refundable deposit of HKD 20,000 before the stated deadline.

BBA Foundation Component at School of Business and Public Administration

BBA Foundation Component

Students are required to complete fifty-one (51) semester credit hours selected from the BBA Foundation. These courses are fundamental to understanding the commercial world and developing sound business skills.

BBA Foundation courses are to be taken in each of a student’s four years at the University. Courses beginning with the number 1 are suggested for freshmen (e.g. BA110); 2 for sophomores (e.g. BA260); 3 for juniors (e.g. BA320); and 4 for seniors (e.g. BA440). During the senior year after having completed most of the General Education and Foundation coursework, students take courses that challenge the fundamental concepts learned. BA441 Operations Management, BA481 Practical Applications in Small Business / Entrepreneurship or BA482 Business / Research Internship, students prepare for the practice of business. They work on projects, meet practicing professionals, and enhance their understanding of how organizations operate. In the capstone BA480 Business Strategy and Policy, students examine business problems from a general management perspective, use and integrate concepts form different functional perspectives, develop strategy, make strategic decisions, and analyze the factors that affect the ability of a business to execute its strategy.

The School intends that its students achieve the following learning outcomes from the BBA Foundation Component. Successful students will:

Apply fundamental concepts and techniques from the functional areas of accounting, economics, finance, information technology, marketing and management to island, national and global business environments
