This course covers Technology and Operations Management (TOM), one of the most fundamental area of business administration. The course clarifies how people in modern manufacturing firms plan, implement, control and improve productive activities, including shop floor tasks in factories and new product development in technical centers of a firm. Main topics include process analysis, history of modern manufacturing systems, concepts of productive performance, control/improvement of cost and productivity, control/improvement of process and inventory systems, control/improvement of quality, control/improvement of flexibility, human resource management, equipment management and production technologies, purchasing management and supplier systems, manufacturing strategy, basics of technology management, control/improvement of product development lead times and productivity, control/improvement of total product quality, and overview. Through this lecture, students are expected to master basic skills and problem solving/finding abilities in manufacturing management, as well as cabilities to communicate effectively with engineers and scientists in factories and other organizations.

A.Introductory Quantitative Requirements
Unless they have clearly demonstrated sufficient knowledge, entering PhD students are required to take the following two mathematics-oriented courses in the first semester of study.
ECON 510 Mathematics for Business and Economics; and
ISMT 581 Introduction to Probability
The credits earned from ECON 510 and ISMT 581 are not counted toward the graduation requirements.
B.General Management Requirements
Except for students on the PhD program in Economics, students who do not have an MBA or equivalent are required to take at least three of the following MBA-level courses. Students with a BBA degree could seek course exemptions from the PhD Director if they have demonstrated successful attainment on similar courses.

General Education Component
Students are required to complete fifty-five (55) semester credit hours selected from the University’s General Education Requirements, as found in the Undergraduate Catalog.
The General Education philosophy states, “While courses in one’s major field prepare a student for success in a chosen profession, the General Education program helps prepare one for success in life.” These courses are important to the BBA degree program, particularly in the areas of essential skills, global and regional studies, modern language and the diversity of society. When all BBA degree program components are taken into consideration, approximately fifty percent (50%) are from non-business coursework.
While there are many choices among the General Education courses offered, it is strongly recommended that BBA students include the following courses during their first year of study (note: BA130 and BA110 are prerequisites to several required BBA Foundation courses):

Being one of China’s 30 experimental universities for EMBA education approved by the State Council Office of the Academic Degree Committee and the Ministry of Education, the EMBA Program of the School of Management is geared to the needs of high-level managers and executives in enterprises and government bodies with good education background and rich management experience. The EMBA Program aims to train the entrepreneurs and high-level professional managers with outstanding international strategic perspectives and overall decision-making and leadership ability.
Since the first class opened up in the second half of 2002, many entrepreneurs and top managers at home and abroad joined in the program. The participation of many private entrepreneurs features the program, constituting a valuable network of elites. The EMBA program is developing steadily and commits itself to building a platform for entrepreneurs and top managers for study, communication and interaction so as to train high-level management personnel with strategic perspectives that can meet the requirements and challenges of global competition.
Education in the EMBA program of the School of Management includes orientation, course learning, supervisor selecting, overseas study tour, and dissertation writing, etc. There are key courses and elective courses in the EMBA program. The supervisor is selected by a two-way system. And dissertations should be defended after anonymous review and evaluation. The key courses in the EMBA program include Corporate Strategy, Managerial Economics, Advanced Financial Management, Operations and Supply Chain Logistics Management, Organizational Behavior within Cross-cultural Context, Strategic Marketing, etc.
