Strategic Management
This course introduces the fundamentals of strategic management, both at the business and corporate levels. While exposing students to the host of conventional analytical tools for strategy design, this course takes the position that strategy design is not separable from strategy implementation. Consequently, it places an emphasis on understanding and enhancement of the process of strategy formation, i.e., the process in which deliberate and emergent strategies dynamically interact and eventually give rise to realized strategies. This course aims to help students:
(1) Acquire a body of concepts and frameworks for analyzing and facilitating strategy design and implementation.
(2) Develop the capability to exercise and integrative perspective of the general manager, utilizing their functional knowledge and experiences
(3) Appreciate the shared sense of corporate “ontology” (reasons for the firm’s existence) and the role of leadership in cultivating the effective dynamics of strategy formation.

Strategic Management (EKM 4401)
Unlike other business courses which concentrate fully on a particular function of the business field (e.g. accounting, finance, marketing, operation, human resources, and information system), strategic management is a big picture course, covering the whole enterprise which includes the environment of the firm, internal conditions, as well as the future prospect of the firm. Students are requested to prove, question, and evaluate the overall internal and external aspects of the firm. Evaluate the capability of the firm vis a vis the rivals, and build the necessary skills in formulating and executing the firm’s strategy. Students will also learn to develop the power of managerial judgment at the top level of management.

Strategy Management
Strategy management involves creating organizations that generate value in a turbulent world over a sustained period of time. It is a management task that involves leadership, creativity, passion, and analysis - building an organization that both generates and responds to change, developing compensation systems to reward staff, devising appropriate structures and systems, competing for funds in global financial markets, and ensuring that necessary resources are developed and allocated to worthwhile opportunities. Strategic management means managing for the present as well as creating change - thinking globally and acting locally - so that the firm continues to prosper in a global, uncertain world. this course will try to lead students to become familiar with the conditions to develop and execute various types of value creating strategies; appreciate the changing contexts when strategizing like type of industry, type of competition and type of customer base; understand what a firm is capable of, where it excels, and which resources and competences do the firm and its members need or actually possess.
